The city has a swimming pool project underway with the hope of adding $3 billion to the city’s general fund and expanding its pools, which cost around $2,000 per person.
The Austin Municipal Utility District will receive a $3-per-hour subsidy to cover the costs of running the project, according to a city statement.
The city has not yet finalized a schedule for how many people will be eligible to receive the subsidy.
The pool was built in the 1960s at the request of the city of Austin to keep the city afloat while a city-owned hospital was built on the site.
The pool has been open since 1987, and it is one of the most popular spots for pool guests.
